Everyone with a website seems to be talking about SEO. They need help with SEO, they need better SEO, they need to optimize SEO, they need an SEO consultant, etc. Well shoot. Here’s the thing. I AM NOT an SEO Consultant. I’m going to repeat that because it’s important. I’m not an SEO Consultant.
I’m a Marketing Consultant who understands SEO and will gladly help you with your SEO as it relates to the rest of your overall digital strategy. I need to make this distinction because I believe SEO is a very important piece of any digital strategy, but it shouldn’t be done in a silo and there are no shortcuts. none. It can be time consuming, tedious and often times it takes months to see any results (if any). Fun right? Yep! Oh, and it’s not just a set it and forget it type of thing. You need to be publishing content on a regular basis, linking to/from other sites and thinking about how your landing pages convert visitors as well. The days of tricky keyword stuffing and meta data optimization only are gone.
For those of you who are still a little foggy on what SEO is, here’s a quick reminder:
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which google defines as “the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.” The idea is that if your website shows up first in the search results (for specific keywords) then more people will see your website leading to more visits to your website which then leads to more sales and better business. Right. Ok.
So, here’s my take on SEO… It’s essential to any digital strategy. It’s a key component to a well thought out and highly functioning website and marketing strategy. It’s definitely not the only key, but it should be on the short list of things you check, try to make better and understand enough to ask questions about. ::Insert Marketing Consultant here::
