So you just launched your website? Awesome! Way to get it!
Here are three things you should do right away:
- Sign up for a Google Analytics Account because it’s FREE and it will take about a minute. Once you have an account, connecting it to your website is a snap (here’s a wordpress guide and a SquareSpace guide). Within 24 hours, you’ll have all this fun data on what pages visitors are viewing, what channels they’re coming from and all sorts of goodies.
- Now that you have your GA account all set up and plugged in, you need to connect your site to the search console. It can be a little tricky, but essentially you just have to add your site (verify that you own it) and then connect it back to your GA account. Once this is connected, you get all the juicy search data like search terms, ranking, impressions and click through to your site. Yip!
- While you’re in the search console, make sure to submit your sitemap. This gives google all of the fancy new pages on your shiny new website. Also, you can find out quickly if there are any issues with your sitemap or site in terms of search-ability on here.
Congratulations on the new site! I’d love to see it!
There are lots of next steps when it comes to new websites. These are just some of my first actions. What are some of yours?
