What are the possible issues with GA4

By May 20, 2023May 31st, 2023No Comments

While Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a powerful analytics platform, it is not without its potential issues. Here are some of the possible issues that users may encounter while using GA4:

  1. Limited historical data: GA4 is a new platform and does not have access to the same amount of historical data as Universal Analytics. This means that users may have limited access to historical data when using GA4. Some have had GA4 running for months or years, while others aren’t setup yet. Get yourself ready for July 1, 2023 when Universal Analytics stops processing now.
  2. Learning curve: GA4 has a new interface and data model that may require users to learn new skills and techniques to use the platform effectively. This may be a challenge for users who are used to the previous versions of Google Analytics. We’ve got a course to help you with this.
  3. Integration issues: GA4 may have integration issues with other platforms and services that users are already using, such as Google Ads or Google Tag Manager. This may result in data discrepancies or errors in tracking. Though this is limited, the data may be different and worth comparing for as much time as you have parallel tracking.
  4. Event tracking complexity: GA4’s event-driven data model may be complex for some users to understand and set up, especially if they are not familiar with the concept of events and parameters. We can help you with this too. Contact us for a consultation.
  5. Limited customization options: While GA4 provides several customization options, it may not have the same level of customization options as Universal Analytics, which may limit the ability of users to create custom reports and dashboards. We can help setup new report libraries, explore templates and Looker Studio reports. Contact us to get started.
  6. Privacy concerns: While GA4 provides enhanced privacy controls, some users may have concerns about data privacy and compliance with data protection regulations.
  7. Lack of third-party support: Some third-party tools and services may not yet be fully compatible with GA4, which may limit the ability of users to integrate these tools into their analytics workflow.

Overall, while GA4 is a powerful analytics platform, users should be aware of the potential issues and limitations associated with the platform and take the necessary steps to mitigate these issues. This may include investing in additional training, using third-party tools and services to supplement GA4, and implementing best practices for data privacy and compliance.
